I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Anna Marie. I’m a mama to two fantastic little girls and wife to an outstanding commercial photographer – shameless plug – check out MacBean Photography!
While I wear many hats outside of mom and wife, I love my Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist hat the most. I’ve been helping people navigate their nervous systems for five years now. I created The Balanced Nest because I want to help more women than I can physically see in person.
Why?
Because being told to “control your emotions” without being taught HOW to control your emotions (aside from just stuffing them down) makes life more complicated. Because being told that we only need to focus on our thoughts and emotions and ignoring our bodies and gut instincts ends up causing more problems. Because being told that everything is a phase and it’ll pass doesn’t get to the root of any problem and adds to our carried loads.
Add in motherhood…now THAT IS HARD.
The generational and emotional “baggage” we carry while being a mom is excessive, and not being taught HOW to understand or release those emotions and feelings makes motherhood so much harder than it needs to be. This “baggage” is masked as overwhelm and anxiety, portrayed through a feeling of failure in motherhood, seen as having a short fuse with your partner and kids, and knowingly avoiding family issues because it’s easier, but in reality, it’s eating away at you. However, I do know this; you love your family to the ends of the earth. You would do ANYTHING for them…and I know you want to see them thrive emotionally. Well, here’s your chance. Our (a mother’s) mental state has an insane effect on our children. Even if you think you mask it well, your energy is still perceivable by your children. So say you feel like you’re dying inside, but you always put on a happy face and don’t let your kids know that adults also have bad days. They will think “happiness” has the energy of “defeat,” and the cycle will continue. The only way to help your kids mentally and emotionally is to help yourself first.
Like the good old phrase goes – place your oxygen mask on before helping others.
But I hear all of the excuses. I hear you say that you’ll have more time to work on yourself when the kids get bigger, or you don’t have time, or it’s just a little overwhelm from being a mom. I’m here to tell you that the overwhelm starts with you…and you’re the only one that can put an end to it.
Are you ready to take care of yourself so you can help your family thrive emotionally? Leave me a comment. I want to hear from you!
